Lock/Security
While you probably would not want to leave your phone unattended, the M70
cellular phone has a number of built-in security features to prevent
unauthorized use.
In this chapter you will learn how to:
activate the Voice Privacy feature.
lock and unlock your phone.
place priority calls.
change your lock code.
restrict call placement and memory access.
reset or clear your phone's settings.
activate your phone's Authentication feature.
Note: Follow these symbols as a guide for using the keys on the side of
your phone.

1. Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button] to enter the menu system.
2. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Lock Secure and press
[Smart Button] to select.
3. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to the following
features:
Voice Privacy
By activating your M70's Privacy feature, you are making a request with
each call to your cellular system to search for a Voice Privacy channel.
If, for any reason, a Voice Privacy channel is not available (or your call
is "handed off" to a cell where a Voice Privacy channel is not available)
you will hear a series of short beeps alerting you that the call is no
longer private.
Voice Privacy must be selected before placing a call to secure a Voice
Privacy channel for that call.
Keep In Mind: This feature is not available in all markets. Please
contact your Service Provider for additional information
about your service area.
To turn the Voice Privacy feature ON or OFF.
4. Press [Smart Button] to toggle between Privacy Preferred or Privacy
Off.
5. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Automatic Electronic Lock
When you turn this feature ON, your phone will automatically lock itself
each time the phone is turned OFF.
4. Press [Smart Button] to toggle Automatic Lock On or Automatic Lock
Off.
5. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Shortcut: Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button], then [1], [5] and
continue with step 4.
Manual Electronic Lock
You can lock your phone manually at any time to help prevent unwanted use.
Once locked, you can leave your phone ON or turn it OFF and the phone
remains locked.
1. Press [FCN] then press & hold [5] for at least one full second. You
will see: "Lock?"
2. Press [Smart Button] or press [STO] to confirm and lock your phone.
Unlocking your phone is quick and easy. Once your phone is ON, just enter
your three-digit lock code to unlock your phone. If you make a mistake,
press [CLR] and start over.
Tip: If you have forgotten your lock code, try pressing [1], [2], [3] or
the last three digits of your cellular phone number.
You can still receive calls when the phone is locked. Follow these steps
to answer the incoming call.
1. Enter your three-digit lock code.
2. Press [Smart Button] or press [SEND] to receive the call.
Priority Call
With Priority Call ON, you can use the Turbo Dial keys to dial from memory
location 01 -- even when the phone is locked! Just store an emergency
number or the phone number of a close friend or relative you would want to
contact in an emergency.
4. Press [Smart Button] to toggle Priority Call On or Off.
5. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Shortcut: Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button], then [2], [9] and
continue with Step 4.
Keep in mind: Some cellular systems have their own emergency numbers and
do not allow access to emergency numbers like 911. Check with your
Service Provider for more information.

2. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Lock Secure and press
[Smart Button] to select.
3. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Secure Options Submenu
and press [Smart Button] to select.
4. Enter your six-digit security code and scroll to the following
features:
Secure Options Submenu
The Secure Options submenu contains a number of features to put your mind
at ease. For your protection, you must enter the six-digit security code
in order to access these features. The factory programmed lock code is
123, and the six-digit security code is 000000. These may have been
changed at the time your phone was activated.
View Lock Code
Forget your lock code or need to double check it? Help is only a few
keystrokes away:
5. Press [Smart Button] to select View Lock Code. You will see your
current lock code: "Lock Code XXX".
6. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Shortcut: Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button], then [5], [5], press
[Smart Button] and continue with step 4.
Change Lock Code
Change your three-digit lock code is easy! Here's how:
5. Press [Smart Button] to select Change Lock Code.
You will see: "Enter Code ____".
6. Enter the new three-digit code. You will see: "Changed to XXX".
7. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Shortcut: Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button], then [5], [4], press
[Smart Button] and continue with step 4.

2. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Lock Secure and press
[Smart Button] to select.
3. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Secure Options Submenu
and press [Smart Button] to select.
4. Enter your six-digit security code and scroll to the following
features:
Service Level
You may want to restrict call placement or hide memory information when
loaning your phone to others. Each of your phone's eight service levels
offers a different combination of access privileges and restrictions.
Choose the one that's right for you!
5. Press [Smart Button] to select Service Level. The phone will display
your current service level. See the chart below.
6. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll through the service level
settings.
7. Press [Smart Button] to select the service level you want.
If you select level 7, the phone will prompt you for the range of
memory locations you want to remain active.
You will see: "Range 1-__".
Enter the range of memory locations from which calls will be allowed.
The phone will confirm the allowed range.
You will see: "1-XX Allowed".
8. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Service Level Settings
Level 1: Calls can be placed from memory 1 Memory
locations 1-10 only.
No dialing from keypad.
No memory edit or storage.
No access to name directory.
Level 2: Calls can be placed from all 2 Memory
memory locations. Only
No dialing from keypad.
No memory edit or storage.
Level 3: Calls can be placed manually from 3 Keypad
the keypad only. Only
No access to memory information.
No memory edit or storage.
Level 4: This is a standard setting. 4 Standard
Setting
No restrictions.
Level 5: Seven-digit (local) dialing is allowed 5 Local
only. Only
DTMF tones will not be transmitted
to prevent calling card calls.
Level 6: Calls can be placed manually from the 6 No Store
keypad and from memory. 1-10

Memory cannot be changed.
Level 7: Calls can be placed manually from a 7 Allow

1. Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button] to enter the menu system.
2. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Lock Secure and press
[Smart Button] to select.
3. Press [Volume Up] or [Volume Down] to scroll to Secure Options Submenu
and press [Smart Button] to select.
4. Enter your six-digit security code and scroll to the following
features:
Authentication (A-Key) Entry
The A-Key acts much like a PIN number and helps protect your phone from
unauthorized users. Contact your Service Provider for your Personalized
A-Key number.
Keep in mind: This feature should only be programmed once.
To activate your M70's A-Key feature:
5. Press [Smart Button] to select A-Key Entry. The display will show the
phone's active phone number.
If the phone number displayed is not the number you want the A-key
programmed to, press either [<*] or [#>] to switch to the second
programmed phone number. This will be the phone number your phone will
operate with once you exit the A-key feature.
6. Enter your new A-key (6-to 26-digit number) as provided by your
Service Provider.
Press [CLR] to correct any errors.
7. Press [Smart Button] to validate the A-key entry. The display will
flash "Valid" if the A-key was input correctly. If "Invalid" is
displayed, re-enter your A-key.
8. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Master Reset
Use this feature to reset all user-selectable options back to their
original factory settings.
Keep in mind: Once you select this feature, the reset process cannot be
canceled or reversed.
5. Press [Smart Button] to select Master Reset.
6. Press [END] to exit the menu if you do not want to reset your phone's
options.

Press [Smart Button] if you want to reset all your phone's options
back to their factory settings.
7. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Shortcut: Press [FCN] then press the [Smart Button], then [5], [2]
and continue with Step 4.
Master Clear
If you want to start with a clean slate, use Master Clear to reset all
user-selectable options, clear the resettable timer, and erase all Phone
Book information.
Keep in mind: Once you select this feature, the process cannot be
canceled or reversed.
5. Press [Smart Button] to select Master Clear.
6. Press [END] to exit the menu if you do not want to clear your phone's
memory and reset its options.
or
Press [Smart Button] if you want to clear the memory and reset all
your phone's options back to their factory settings. This will take a
few seconds. You will see: "Busy".
7. Press [END] to exit the menu, or you may scroll to other features.
Shortcut: Press [FCN] then press [Smart Button], then [5], [3], press
[Smart Button] and continue with step 4.
